Jackie Soraya Bio
It was a singular, tragic moment that sparked my artistic journey: when I
learned that 22-year-old Mahsa Amini was killed in Iran for not wearing a
headscarf. As a second-generation Iranian American and the mother of two
daughters, this news struck a chord within me, sparking a period of deep
reflection that fueled my creative fire. Driven by a desire to reconnect with my
feminine Persian roots, I sought inspiration in the vivid imagery
and distinctive styles of the Qajar Dynasty, a time celebrated for its fashion
renaissance in Iran. This exploration led to the birth of my inaugural series of
paintings, "Divine Feminine: Persian Magic," an homage to the
enduring spirit and beauty of Persian
women.
Since then, painting is a space where my dreams
flow freely, and I am connected to something beyond the tangible, a
timeless essence deeply embedded in my heritage and identity. My subsequent
series have blossomed from this ongoing journey, steered by personal history
and sacred symbols. As I explore the vast depths of the human experience, I
gently unravel the tapestry of connections that weaves us all together.
Hindu Deities: Tantric Vibes Statement
In response to the emotional whirlwind unleashed by the world’s chaos, I
embarked on an exploration of self with the transformative power of chanting.
This physical and expressive outlet has become my conduit for processing
emotions and connecting with something transcendent. Through rhythmic
chanting, I discovered a seed of creation nestled in Hinduism and unearthed a
profound connection to what I call my “soul feminine energy” within Hindu
mythology and spirituality.
My artistic process mirrors this journey towards connection and creation. Each
painting is meticulously crafted within a dedicated period, during which I enter
a state of deep connection and creative flow. Drawing from my experiences of
chanting and introspection, I channel my emotions and insights onto the canvas,
imbuing each Hindu Deity with the same sense of transcendence and spiritual
resonance I felt while creating it.
Each piece from this series is born from a period of intense dedication, where I
immerse myself in a state of profound connectivity and creative immersion.
Inspired by my chanting experiences and moments of deep reflection, I transfer
my emotional and spiritual revelations onto the canvas. Every depiction of a
Hindu Deity carries the essence of the transcendence and spiritual depth I
experienced, making this work a reflection of my journey towards inner
connection and creative expression.
Night Pools Series Statement
In my series "Night Pools," I endeavor to capture the ethereal beauty of still
waters illuminated by moonlight, casting a shimmering glow upon the
landscape. Inspired by moments of tranquility and solitude, I seek to evoke a
sense of peace and introspection, inviting viewers to immerse themselves in the
serene beauty of the nocturnal landscape. With a style characterized by all
prima, bold, intentionally brushwork, I create a living energetic atmosphere
that viewers sense they are inside my compositions. Each stroke of the paint
brush is a deliberate expression, carefully crafted to capture the essence of
energetic illumination that defines each scene.
